Current location:

Charleston, SC.

Moved from:

Philadelphia, PA.

Own or rent?

We are currently renting. We wanted to “feel out” the area before committing. Finding the right place took some patience, but once we saw it, we knew it was the one.

What do you do for a living?

I spent over 25 years as a medical aesthetician and owned my own business. I decided to step away mostly because we were moving. I’m in the process of figuring out my next move.

What made you move to the area?

After living near Philadelphia for most of my life, I felt ready for a completely different pace. I wanted a fresh start and to find a sense of community. Charleston has this balance of charm, nature, energy, and great weather that made it feel like the right place for that fresh start.

Was this move planned or spontaneous?

A little of both. It was something we talked about for several years. We fell in love after visiting a few times and knew it was where we wanted to end up.

Did you know anyone in town before moving? Were you able to make new friends?

We knew a few people but everyone has been incredibly welcoming and we’re already starting to build new friendships.

Cost of living here compared to your previous location:

Some things are more expensive, but overall it feels comparable depending on what we’re purchasing.

Community and culture here compared to your previous location:

Charleston feels calmer and a little slower in the best way. People seem more relaxed and there’s a strong sense of community.

Traffic situation:

Honestly, traffic in Philadelphia can get a little hairy just like here.

One thing you wish someone had told you before moving:

How much time you’ll end up wanting to spend outside. The weather and scenery naturally make you want to get out and explore.

Advice for the town mayor:

Probably infrastructure and traffic as the area continues to grow.

What/who would you bring from your old town?

Not much – I’ve enjoyed the brand new, fresh start.

Do you call this place home?

I do now. Moving here feels like the start of a really good new chapter.

Favorite restaurants:

We’ve had so many great meals already and the list of places we want to try keeps getting longer. We love Fig, Lost Isle and Hall’s to name a few.

Hobbies:

Walking my dogs, exploring new places around town, traveling, and creating content online. I’m always up for a good documentary or a show I can binge.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

I’d probably split my time between Charleston and Thailand. Thailand was, by far, my favorite place to visit.
