Odd Duck Market opens in Charleston
The cafe and retail market officially opened its third location in downtown Charleston at 637 Rutledge Avenue.
Smalls Sliders opening soon in North Charleston
The fast-food chain will open its first Lowcountry location on July 20 at 2280 Ashley Phosphate Road, just off I-26 near Northwoods Mall. The restaurant is operated out of bright orange modular shipping containers.
El Molino is coming to Hanahan
El Molino Supermarket will open its fourth Lowcountry location on July 18 at 1264 Yeamans Hall Road (replacing La Tapatia). Owned by Jaime Tinoco and Pamela Sierra, the Mexican grocery features fresh tortillas, imported goods, meat and seafood counters, and a bakery. The other locations are in West Ashley, North Charleston, and Ladson.
New restaurant to take over Dashi space
Mark Bolchoz, chef and owner of Cane Pazzo in Hanahan, is bringing a new concept to the former home of the Asian and Latin fusion spot in North Charleston, which closed on June 14. The neighborhood restaurant will debut later this year and draw inspiration from pubs in Ireland’s small surf towns.
Mozzo is coming to Summerville
Mozzo Deli announced on Instagram that its fourth location will open in December off Brighton Park Boulevard in Nexton. Mozzo has two locations in Mount Pleasant and one in Charleston.
Sèchey is closing
Emily Heintz is moving her King St. nonalcoholic beverage shop, Sèchey, out of South Carolina due to challenging regulatory and financial environments. High rent, costly liquor liability insurance, strict state laws regulating under-0.5% ABV drinks as alcohol, and volatile hemp regulations have hindered investment capital. Heintz plans to relocate to a state with a more supportive regulatory landscape.
Britt’s Donut Shop is coming to Charleston
The famous North Carolina donut shop, which opened in 1939, will land in Charleston this fall. This will be Britt’s second location. The shop will be located at 32 N. Market St.
New burger spot
Al’s Burger Shack, a Chapel Hill chain founded in 2013, opened its first out-of-state location at The Corner at Westcott, 9500 Dorchester Road, Summerville, replacing a former Five Guys. Owner Taylor Buford is a local returning home. Menu: burgers, hot dogs, fries, tots, milkshakes. Open daily, 11 a.m.–9 p.m.
Frozen blueberries sold at Publix in SC recalled
Publix supermarkets announced that a supplier of frozen blueberries sold at its stores, including in South Carolina, is recalling its products after 12 people were sickened by a bacterial contamination. The affected products have a lot code of 60401 and a best by date of Feb. 9, 2028.
Charleston ✈️ Fort Lauderdale
Breeze Airways announced the launch of a new nonstop service between Charleston and Fort Lauderdale. The service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays with introductory fares starting at $64 one way.
USA vs. Belgium
Uptown Hospitality Group and the Charleston Battery are hosting a watch party for the World Cup match at Credit One Stadium on Monday, July 6 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 via Ticketmaster. All ages are welcome, and everyone requires a ticket.
Kaia is coming to Charleston
Chef Raheem Sealy is opening Kaia at 186 Coming St. in late July or early August. Located in the former Sorghum & Salt space, the restaurant will feature Caribbean cuisine with Asian influences, serving small plates alongside beer, wine, and cocktails. Sealy, who currently operates three Miami restaurants, will commute to Charleston to oversee the new venture.
New Costco location
Costco filed a plan with S.C. Department of Environmental Services for its third Charleston-area store: a 181,000-square-foot building and 32-pump gas station on 25 acres at 9000 Blue House Road in North Charleston’s Ingleside development.

Bad Bambino to open in August
Joe Walker, owner of Cafe Roca and The Corner Shop, plans to open Italian restaurant Bad Bambino in August at the former Taco Bartina spot (1301 Ashley River Rd). The 35-seat, walk-in-only spot will operate 4-10 p.m. with a darker, date-night vibe. Will Cammer, formerly of Costa, will lead the kitchen, serving simplified Italian favorites, upstate New York-style square pizza, plus wine and beer.
New CAVA location
CAVA opened its third Lowcountry location at 124 North Creek Drive in Summerville’s Cane Bay area. The Mediterranean fast-casual chain, founded 2010 in Maryland, now operates 474 U.S. stores. The spot is open daily 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m.

Charleston restaurant 167 Raw has a new lobster ravioli on the menu.
Opening this Friday
Popular bagel shop PopUp Bagels, known for its “grip, rip, and dip” concept, will have its grand opening on Friday, July 3rd from 7-11 AM at 83 Mary St.
Coming in 2027
Stono’s Oyster Bar, a 5,700-square-foot waterfront restaurant at 2409 Maybank Highway on Johns Island, is nearing completion and targeting a spring 2027 opening. Owned by Mike Shuler, the boater-friendly spot on the Stono River will offer 60-plus free boat slips, indoor and outdoor seating, a rooftop bar, and a hangar door. The menu centers on oysters and locally sourced seafood.
