New 🥯 spot in Charleston
Popular bagel shop PopUp Bagels, known for its "grip, rip, and dip" concept, will open a location in Charleston at 83 Mary St. The bagel shop has locations in California, Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New York and North Carolina.
Caviar & Bananas to open 3rd location
The cafe founded in 2008 near the College of Charleston, will take over the former Maple Street Biscuit Co. space at 1739 Maybank Highway. The expected opening is in May.
Danny’s Philly Steaks is closing
The Charleston sandwich spot, which opened in 2021, is closing on January 31st. In the Facebook post announcing the closure, the restaurant said that it's a "see you later" and that "this story may not be over yet."
Kultura owners to open new restaurant
After relocating Kultura, the owners will open Bareo, a Filipino-Japanese restaurant in the former Kultura space at 73 Spring St. The new spot will specialize in dumplings and kakigori, a shaved ice dessert. Bareo is targeting a mid-February opening.
Babas opens 3rd location in Charleston
The coffee shop serving pastries, craft coffees, salads, sandwiches, wine and cocktails, opened a third location at 115 Wentworth St. The new location is open 7 AM to 8 PM Tue-Thu, 7 AM to 10 PM Friday & Saturday, and 7 AM to 6 PM on Sunday. The two other locations are on Meeting St. and Cannon St.
Ok Donna to open on Saturday
The new spot serving pizza and pasta will open on Dec. 20 at 1117 King Street. The restaurant, from the folks behind Last Saint and Bar George, will serve dinner from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the bar will be open until midnight.
The Rarebit is closing
After 13 years in business, the restaurant on King Street will close its doors on Sunday, Dec. 21. Co-owner Richard Bloom said the decision came after years of declining business, which began during the pandemic.
Fuel is closing
Fuel Cantina, a former gas station turned restaurant at 211 Rutledge Ave. serving Caribbean-inspired food, is closing after more than 15 years. Final day of service will be Saturday, December 20.
Annie Mae’s Bakeshop to open in Charleston
The bakery, set to open in December at 185 Saint Philip Street, will specialize in Southern savory and sweet treats. The new establishment is owned by Annie and Jason Vieira, who have been selling breads and desserts in a commissary kitchen to Charleston restaurants for the last ~2 years.
Sushi | Bar to open in Charleston
Sushi | Bar, an Omakase sushi bar backed by a 2-star Michelin chef, will open at 158 Church St with 12 seats. Sushi | Bar Charleston will be the group’s sixth location, with outposts operating in Miami, Nashville, Austin, Dallas; and Hermosa Beach. Reservations open on the 1st of every month.
Herd Provisions is closing
Charleston restaurant and butcher shop announced that it will close after nearly seven years in business. The last day of service will be November 29th.

The Select is closing
The restaurant will close down 16 months after it opened inside Greystar's corporate headquarters at 465 Meeting St. The Select specialized in modern American food with a French and Latin accent.

Fuji on King Street closes
After 7 years, Fuji Sushi Bar & Grill at 585 King Street has permanently closed following lease issues. The restaurant is exploring opportunities to relocate and bring Fuji back to downtown the Charleston area in the future. The restaurant has 4 other locations in Mount Pleasant, Nexton, and Kiawah Island.
Mi Xao @ Munkle
Charleston brewery Munkle Brewing Company announced a partnership with Mount Pleasant restaurant Mi Xao. After doing several pop-ups, brewery guests will now be able to enjoy Vietnamese food Tuesday through Saturday every week.
ShokudĂ´ to open on Oct. 30
The Japanese restaurant from the hospitality group behind O-Ku, Oak Steakhouse and Indaco, will open to the public next Thursday. The restaurant is located at 479 King Street.
Keel expanding Charleston County operations
The defense manufacturer is expanding its operations in Charleston with a $67 million investment that will create 170 new jobs at Keel’s Yonges Island shipyard. Headquartered in Ladson, Keel is an advanced manufacturer of submarine modules and components, aircraft carrier components, and other complex structures for the U.S. Navy and broader defense industry.
Kultura to open on Oct. 24
The Filipino restaurant which relocated from its original location at 73 Spring Street to a bigger space at 267 Rutledge Avenue, will open its doors on Oct. 24. Opening hours will be 5-10 PM Thursday through Monday and reservations can be made through Resy.
