Mount Pleasant's Spoon and Cake, located at 1956 Long Grove Dr near Target, has a new mini red velvet cake. The bakery, which had its soft opening in April, offers cakes, pastries, desserts, and breads.
Mount Pleasant won’t move forward with Towne Centre redevelopment plan
The Town of Mount Pleasant denied a redevelopment plan that would have added hundreds of housing, apartment and office units at Towne Centre. The council denied the project with a 7-1 vote. [WCBD].

The Mount Pleasant Police Department shared a video showing a lightning strike in Highway 17. The strike caused power outages and traffic delays, but no one was injured and Dominion Energy restored power and removed the downed wires.
Melvin’s BBQ to temporarily close
The Mount Pleasant location will be closed from Aug. 11-16 for some updates and renovations. The location in James Island remains open.
Sermet’s Courtyard is closing
The restaurant, which served the Daniel Island area since 2011, will close on August 20. A new spot by the owners of Nick's German Kitchen called Vinea Courtyard Kitchen, is set to open in the same location in September.
Gov. McMaster signs Hands-Free and Distracted Driving Bill into law
The new law prohibits holding or supporting mobile devices with any part of the body while operating a vehicle and goes into effect on September 1.
Timber Pizza Co. officially opens
The pizzeria, which started in 2014 and was named Pizzeria of the Year by Bon Appétit magazine in 2017, officially opened in downtown Charleston. The spot, which is located at 741 Meeting Street Suite 102, can seat 34 indoors and 16 outdoors.
Jared Petteys to release new single
The local singer and guitarist will release his new single, "Is This Love?," tomorrow. The new song will be available on major streaming platforms.
The REESE’S and OREO brands announce collaboration

CCSD launches new bus tracking app
Charleston County School District has launched FirstView, a redesigned, real-time GPS vehicle tracking and student transportation monitoring app. The app offers an easy-to-use platform for parents and caregivers to monitor their child’s bus location, receive updates, and stay connected throughout the school day.
Montreux Bar and Grill announces new owner
After 16 and a half years, the Summerville restaurant has been sold to Page's Okra Grill, which will take over on August 4th with plans to reopen later that week.
Flying to Texas?
Starting October 9th, Frontier Airlines will add a twice-weekly service between Charleston International Airport and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
Snow Monkeys opens

Aldi's second Mount Pleasant location has officially opened today at 3153 N Highway 17.
Kultura is relocating
Filipino restaurant Kultura is relocating from its original location at 73 Spring Street to a new space at 267 Rutledge Avenue, previously occupied by Chasing Sage. The new location will offer more space and a proper kitchen. The owners are planning to open the new space in October.
Buffalo Wild Wings will open on Thursday
Buffalo Wild Wings will open on July 17 in the former Outback Steakhouse space on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard. It’s the fourth Charleston-area franchise for the national chain and seventh in South Carolina.
The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on the opening day.

The Wedge, A New York-inspired deli, is preparing to open at 2487 Ashley River Road in the next month. The spot will specialize in sandwiches, burgers and prepared foods. The new establishment is an extension of a food truck by Gerry Meehan and Erin Sorbanelli.
