Bad Bambino to open in August
Joe Walker, owner of Cafe Roca and The Corner Shop, plans to open Italian restaurant Bad Bambino in August at the former Taco Bartina spot (1301 Ashley River Rd). The 35-seat, walk-in-only spot will operate 4-10 p.m. with a darker, date-night vibe. Will Cammer, formerly of Costa, will lead the kitchen, serving simplified Italian favorites, upstate New York-style square pizza, plus wine and beer.
New park to open in West Ashley
Old Towne Creek County Park, a 67-acre site in West Ashley adjacent to Charles Towne Landing, opens June 30. Located at 1400 Old Towne Rd, it features trails, boardwalks, marsh views, an arboretum, and a nature-themed playground. Gifted by Emily Simmons Ravenel and Emily Ravenel Farrow, it includes interpretive signage on West Ashley’s history.
Cold Shoulder Gourmet is closing
The sandwich shop at 1684 Old Towne Road in West Ashley is closing at the end of June after four years. Founded in 2020 by Kenyan-born chef Craig Edmunds, the brand will continue through pop-ups, guest kitchens, and new sandwiches. An exact closing date wasn’t announced.
Ms. Rose’s is closing
The West Ashley restaurant announced in a Facebook post that it will close on May 30th. The post mentioned rising operating costs and the difficulty of staffing a kitchen.
WildFlour Pastry adds lunch menu
The West Ashley spot has introduced new sandwiches, served on its breads & croissants. Some highlights include The Smokin’ Bird: smoked chicken salad, cheddar, pickled red onions, & lettuce served on Croissant, and The Maverick: roast beef, provolone, Swiss, caramelized onions, and arugula, with horseradish mayo served on ciabatta. WildFlour Pastry is located at 1750 Savannah Hwy. Check out the lunch menu, which is available Tuesday – Saturday from 11-3 PM, here.
New BKeDSHop opening in West Ashley
The 4th BKeDSHoP location will open on Mother's Day at 555 Shadowmoss Parkway. BKeDShop, which serves donuts and coffee, has locations in Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and Summerville.
Mazal is opening tomorrow
The Israeli restaurant located at 1901 Ashley River Road will open its doors at 11 AM on Monday November 3rd. Some of the menu items include falafel, hummus, and shawarma.
The Wedge opens
The business has officially opened a storefront to go alongside its food truck. The new spot is located at 2487 Ashley River Rd, Unit 2, and hours are 8 AM to 2 PM, Wednesday through Sunday.
Pho & Padthai to open next month
The new restaurant offering Vietnamese and Thai dishes will open on October 3rd in West Ashley. Head chef and co-owner Tee Nguyen has operated Lanna Thai in Ashley Phosphate and Pho Bowl in Goose Creek – both of which have been passed on to her nieces and nephews. The restaurant is located at 1662 Savannah Hwy Suite 202.

Opening next month
The Wedge, a New York deli and market, is preparing for their grand opening on Saturday, October 4th. Located at 2487 Ashley River Rd, Unit 2, The Wedge will operate from 8 AM to 2 PM, Wednesday through Sunday to start. Their food truck will continue running alongside the new location.

New Israeli restaurant to open in West Ashley
Mazal, which means luck in Hebrew, is set to open at 1901 Ashley River Road, previously occupied by The Crab Shack. The new spot, which will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, will serve falafel, shawarma, and kebabs.
YoBo Cantina to close
The Mexican-inspired West Ashley restaurant will serve its last customers on Feb. 13.
Charleston Planetarium to open next month
The new "state-of-the-art" planetarium dome theatre being installed at Citadel Mall, is set to open in February. The dome is expected to have 50 seats where visitors can see shows on subjects such as astronomy, biology and history. The plan is to stay at the Citadel Mall for around three or four years.
Riso Noodle House closes
The Chinese restaurant located at 1890 Sam Rittenberg Blvd has closed.
Sam Rittenberg Boulevard redesign
The City of Charleston is soliciting proposals for a complete street redesign for the Sam Rittenberg Boulevard Corridor. According to the Project Overview & Vision section, The Sam Rittenberg Boulevard Corridor Redesign is an opportunity to create an attractive, functional, multi-modal main street in West Ashley that supports vibrant neighborhoods and mixed use redevelopment opportunities.
The Mason Jar by Fatboys reopens
After being closed for nearly two months due to a car driving through the restaurant, the spot offering classic Southern food announced it will reopen tomorrow.
Bearcat restaurant closes
Bearcat has closed after 13 months. Rising costs and mediocre patronage were reasons for the closure of the West Ashley restuarant. "Opening an independent restaurant in 2024 is really hard these days," chef/owner George Kovach told The Post and Courier. "We were just unfortunately slow."
A new bank is coming to town
The Burger King at Ashley River Road and Sam Rittenberg Blvd, which has been vacant since 2019, is being demolished. A First National Bank of Pennsylvania outpost will be built in its place and is expected to open in 2025.
West Ashley gets new Egyptian spot
Egy Dough has recently opened at 2578 Ashley River Rd, bringing Egyptian pies, Pizza, shawarma, and sweets. Lauren says "Run don't walk!"
