Traveling to Fort Lauderdale?
Breeze Airways will launch a seasonal nonstop route between Charleston International Airport and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., starting July 2, with flights three times a week and fares beginning at $49 one way. Fort Lauderdale becomes Breeze's 28th nonstop destination from Charleston, joining Spirit Airlines and JetBlue, which also serve the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport route from CHS.
Bareo is now open
Bareo, a Filipino-Japanese restaurant owned by the owners of Kultura, is officially open. The new spot specializes in dumplings and kakigori, a shaved ice dessert.
Joyland closes
About a year after it opened in downtown Charleston, the burger joint by chef Sean Brock has closed. Joyland has 3 other locations in Nashville and Birmingham, AL.
Paris Baguette officially opens
The bakery and cafe has officially opened at 656 Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant. This is the first Paris Baguette in the Charleston area. The location serves cakes, sandwiches, pastries, and coffee.
Roxa Dessert Bar to open in Hanahan
Roxa Dessert Bar, a 16-seat dessert-focused concept from chef Heather Hutton, is targeting a late February opening at 1296 Yeamans Hall Road in the same strip center as Cane Pazzo. Hutton, who previously led pastry programs at Edmund's Oast and Honeysuckle Rose, launched Roxa as a pop-up before securing the small retail space. The bar will offer a la carte service Wednesday through Saturday and a six-course tasting menu on Sundays, along with wine, dessert cocktails and nonalcoholic drinks. Hours will be 5–10 pm Wednesday–Thursday, 5–11 pm Friday–Saturday, and 4–10 pm Sunday, with reservations available through Resy.
Pizza a Modo Mio opens Clements Ferry location
The pizza spot announced the soft opening of its third location at 1937 Clements Ferry Rd. The location will be open from 7:00 am for coffee, bagels and egg sandwiches, and pizza will be available between 11 am - 8 pm.
Folly Beach Town Council to review short-term rental cap
Three years after Folly Beach introduced its short-term rental cap, Mayor Chris Bizzell says the city is reviewing the law as part of its 2026 strategic plan. The goal is to address loopholes and unanswered questions from the original draft. The cap, adopted by voters in February 2023, limits short-term rentals to 800 second homes. At the time of the vote, 1,125 rental properties accounted for 43% of housing stock. About 200 entries remain on the waiting list.
Sephora to open 3rd standalone store
Sephora is scheduled to open its 3rd standalone store in the Charleston area. The store will open in mid-March in Mount Pleasant between T.J. Maxx and Crumbl (1500 Hwy 17, Ste 20, Mount Pleasant).
Golf Galaxy opens in Mount Pleasant
The specialty chain owned by Dick's Sporting Goods has officially opened in Mount Pleasant at 1909 N. Highway 17 (near Trader Joe's). The 20,000-square-foot location is equipped with simulators and hitting bays, and the store also offers lessons and custom club fittings.
New bar coming to Mount Pleasant
DECOY, a new bar from the team behind Dog & Duck, will open in mid-February at the corner of Highway 41 and Highway 17, in the space formerly occupied by The Basement. The new spot is designed for adults ages 21 and older.
New 🥯 spot in Charleston
Popular bagel shop PopUp Bagels, known for its "grip, rip, and dip" concept, will open a location in Charleston at 83 Mary St. The bagel shop has locations in California, Connecticut, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, New York and North Carolina.
Sabatino’s opens in Summerville
The Charleston pizza joint has officially opened its second location at 105 A Old Light Rd. Aside from pies and pizza by the slice, the new spot offers beer & wine, desserts, fried calzones, jalapeño poppers, and family recipes.
Caviar & Bananas to open 3rd location
The cafe founded in 2008 near the College of Charleston, will take over the former Maple Street Biscuit Co. space at 1739 Maybank Highway. The expected opening is in May.
Danny’s Philly Steaks is closing
The Charleston sandwich spot, which opened in 2021, is closing on January 31st. In the Facebook post announcing the closure, the restaurant said that it's a "see you later" and that "this story may not be over yet."
Kultura owners to open new restaurant
After relocating Kultura, the owners will open Bareo, a Filipino-Japanese restaurant in the former Kultura space at 73 Spring St. The new spot will specialize in dumplings and kakigori, a shaved ice dessert. Bareo is targeting a mid-February opening.
New subs
Joey's Pizzeria, the new spot that opened last month at 5060 Dorchester Rd, North Charleston, will soon add meatball, sausage, and chicken parm sandwiches to its menu.
New pizza coming soon to Summerville
Autentico NY Pizza Company, a NY style pizza place serving pies and slices, will open soon in the Big Lots shopping center at 10150 Dorchester Rd. The spot will also offer lasagna, pasta, and wings.
